1990's Visual Art

Visual Art

The 90's was a time when contemporary, postmodern, late modernist, and photo realist art was the most popular. Contemporary art is defined as art that has been produced since World War 2. Some forms of contemporary art include Digital art, Bio art, and Massurrealism. Bridget Riley was one of the more famous optical artists, which is part of the contemporary art movement. She made many paintings that caused optical illusions on the viewer, one example is on the right, it is called Shadowplay.

Postmodern art is used to describe the art movement which was to be a contradiction to some aspects of modernism. Some forms of postmodern art includes New Classicism and Appropriation art. Ronnie Landfield was an abstract painter. He is best known for his abstract landscapes which include The Deluge (pictured on the left).
